Kathmandu to host Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival
The 13th edition of the Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival (NHRIFF) will take place in Kathmandu from December 11 to 15. Running since 2010, NHRIFF will feature a selection of films highlighting human rights issues. This year, the theme is child rights.
Over 40 films from around the world will be screened during the festival. Some screenings will be followed by discussions with the filmmakers, allowing audiences to engage with the issues presented. The festival will feature films under several sections, including a ‘Competition’ section for Nepali and international films produced in 2024 to 2025, a ‘Special Screening’ section for films addressing critical human rights issues, ‘Yesteryears Eyes’ for classic human rights films, and ‘Partners’ Panorama’ showcasing films from NHRIFF partner organisations.
The Nepali Panorama section will highlight short and documentary films produced in Nepal, offering a platform for local filmmakers to present stories of resilience, hope, and community.
Selected films in the ‘Competition’ section will be eligible for cash prizes and awards, including Best Documentary (Nepal and International) and Best Fiction (Nepal and International).
Each award includes a trophy, a certificate of achievement, and a cash prize of Rs50,000.
The festival, open to the public, will take place at the Film Development Board, Chabahil and Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
